Bastardos y Borbones
An exciting journey through the most turbulent and unknown past of the Bourbons – the past of the secret children of kings and princes. These children, unfairly ignored by the majority of people, were denied their true condition to avoid the scandal.
At the beginning of the Nineteenth Century, the foundations of the dynasty totter: María Luisa of Parma, wife of King Carlos IV, confesses that the king is not the father of any of her children. From that day on, bastardy will be the keynote in the lustful lineage of the Bourbon: from the many lovers of the Queen Elizabeth II, one of which was the true father of Alfonso XII, until Alfonso XIII – known as the “king of the bastards”, father of many children, among them possibly a famous Spanish actor who came to perform in the cinema. This list includes Juan Carlos I, who is supposed to be the father of illegitimate daughter.
With the help of unpublished documents rescued from the archives of the Ministry of Justice, the National Historical Archive and the Royal Palace, as well as valuable testimonies from friends and family, José María Zavala in Bastardos y Borbones leads us to an unforgettable journey through the lives of them alland their hopes of being, at the end, recognized.
